Hey y’all,

I’ve talked to a lot of boss ladies throughout my career, and with that, I’ve encountered tons of great ideas.

But I find that even the most determined people have a hard time communicating them with others.

Of course, I’m not exempt from this. For the longest, I ran my business with no cap on client load – at one point, I managed as many as 150 clients at one time. It was beyond overwhelming, especially during tax season.

I had the time-saving, value-adding idea to transition from doing individual taxes to a monthly retention program for business clients. I selected ten of my highest paying clients and started to reach out to them to see if they’d be interested in enrolling in the program. Immediately this would reduce my workload while substantially bumping up by revenue.  Win-win!

To my surprise (and joy), the first client was very interested but he had a lot of questions. I tried to answer them on the phone but since the idea was still fairly new, I had trouble communicating it, and truthfully, he brought up a lot of things I hadn’t thought about before. Finally, he asked if I had a pamphlet with the details so he could make a decision for himself. I graciously said I’d get something to him in a few days.

That gave me time to fully flesh out my program. I went home immediately and started writing everything in my head down. Then, I solicited help from my team to make it visually appealing and professional. Once I had the document ready, I sent it to him and he agreed with the rates the next day.

This exchange taught me something valuable: great ideas are great, but taking the time to think them through, put a plan together and execute is transformative. I had all these problem-solving, money-making ideas caged in my head and sat on them for wayyy too long.  The power of writing your ideas down allows you to see it right in front of you. You can begin taking action immediately or come back to it at a later time to work on it.

This week’s #ChikasTaxTip: great ideas are the currency of entrepreneurs – but they don’t mean shit unless you know how to communicate it effectively — and EXECUTE!.

With love,

Chika
