Taxes can be scary, but thankfully they don’t have to be.
My name is Chika Obih. I’m from LA but have called the Bay my home since 2003. I’ve been a tax accountant for 9 years and counting…
First I want to say, thank you for interest in learning more about Chika’s Tips. I’m excited about this connection we are building, starting with this blog post to the endless possibilities that can grow from sharing great ideas, spreading affirmations and working hard.
A little more about me: I am fueled by passion. Ever since I was a child, I wanted to be a businesswoman because I saw myself in the every beautiful, power-suit wearing Black woman from Ebony Magazine. The way they carried themselves indicated that they were serious about their business and I wanted to be just like them.
I figured I would find a way to be successful by finding what I loved to do and going after it. I’ve always been a math nerd, so I became a tax accountant, got my CPA and started working for one of the Big Four accounting groups.
It was long until I was one of those focused, power-suit wearing business women from the magazines. I was young, successful and had a great career. I fulfilled my childhood dream. But something was still missing.
I never identified with the companies I worked for and I wasn’t passionate about what I was doing. I spent my days helping Fortune 500 companies save millions in taxes and felt miserable most of the time..
I kept it real with myself and knew that this wasn’t the life for me. I wanted to spend my time and energy helping actual people, especially women.
So I did something risky: I quit my corporate job and became my own boss. It was rough the first few years. I worked long hours, undercharged my services and felt undervalued by my clients. I struggled to pay my bills but I knew this was the right path for me so I kept at it.
After nine years in the business, I’m now a badass woman entrepreneur helping other badass women get their businesses and taxes in order – and I’m ready to do more.
That’s why I started Chika’s Tips. To help entrepreneurial women who have the passion, work ethic and ideas but lack experience with complex tax law or business know-how. Nothing should hold you back from your dreams. Follow along with me and let’s get it together!
