Now back to this week’s hot topic…how to beat the entrepreneur block.  Keep reading.

I’ll say it again… The entrepreneur journey is NOT for the faint of heart. The joy of being your own boss and owning your financial freedom is huge, but getting there is quite the challenge.

Of course with that challenge, there will be times of loss of motivation. I call it “entrepreneur block”. It’s those moments when you feel lost in the sauce and freeze a little. You might even question why you started your business in the first place (hooray for anxiety). Consider it part of the entrepreneur journey. But no fret.

Here are my tips for beating that entrepreneur block:

  1. Book time off
This is something I’ve learned to do after tax season. After tax season, I am BURNT OUT. So burnt out that II can barely bring myself to open my computer. To combat this, I take a chunk of time off after every tax season to chill on the beach somewhere.

Contrary to what some people might tell you, it is not normal to work all the time. You need breaks. After intense periods of focus you need to let your brain rest, just like you would let your body rest after a grueling workout.

This time off has to be strict. I’m talking about silencing work notifications and leaving the computer at your desk! Take time to do the things that energize you. As they say… distance makes the heart grow fonder, and sometimes that holdstrue for your business.

  2. Break down overwhelming goals
I tend to future-think. Future-thinking is thinking WAY ahead of time i.e NOT being in the present For my business, I think about what I want it to look like once it has become successful. If you furture-think on the regular, then you know just how overwhelming it can feel to think like this. It can create anxiety and make you believe your goals are out of reach.

To combat this, I try to stay in the present moment as much as possible – Focusing on what needs to happen day-to-day. Breaking down your large vision into bite-size task sets you up to be flexible and meet challenges along the way.

When you set your short-term goals, think about that ultimate life vision. For me that’s flexible work and a meaningful loving family life.
  3. Remember why you became an entrepreneur.
If you have heard my entrepreneur story before, you know I was FED UP with the corporate work environment. I was burnt out and felt that I could not succeed, no matter how much I excelled at meeting goals. I have known since the day I left my corporate job that I was never going back to a corporate environment.

Now that I am 12 years into entrepreneurship, the questions I have around my business are not a matter of if I should have done it or not… They are around how I can simplify and achieve that life vision I want for myself.

The reason I created my business was to achieve my goals outside of the professional world. I want to be able to financially support my family AND spend as much time with them as I want while my business soars in my absence.

So, why did you become an entrepreneur? What is that life vision? Write that down, stick it on your computer or your mirror. Look at it daily. Let it be your motivator. You got this.

Remember: It’s NORMAL to experience loss of motivation, frustration and overwhelm. It’s part of the entrepreneur journey and it’s what makes it so badass! If this stuff was easy, we would be bored and wouldn’t want to do it.  Amirite?!
