I LOVE summer! I know you do too.  Even though we’re still hustling and working our butts off, you can’t help but be in a lighter mood because it’s always so nice out. If you have kids, chances are they’re at summer camp or having fun outside most of the day leaving you with a whole lot more time to yourself.

This time of the year is extra special for me because tomorrow will be my 9 year anniversary of quitting my corporate job. I think about how far I’ve come and it makes me feel a little sentimental.

At that time, I was just beginning to grasp the abundance mindset. It helped me quit my job because I realized I could finally have something that my corporate job id my provide me:  a true work/life balance and flexibility. . The opportunities to create my own path were vast and it was a lot to wrap my head around.

I needed to take a break. So, I took a staycation.

Ladies, staycations are powerful. There’s no shame in it. I really believe it. They’re amazing because you get to have the soul-searching, confidence-building trip-like a vacation without paying for an expensive ass flight or hotel room.

The staycation helped me detox my mind and reframe my goals for starting my own accounting practice. Even though I used to work in San Francisco, I never actually experienced the city while I worked my full time job. I was too tired during the week and on weekends, I couldn’t be bothered to take a trek into the city for events.

On my staycation, I went hiking along the beach, visited Alcatraz, tried new restaurants, watched matinees in the afternoon (all by myself!) and so much more. I didn’t realize the beauty that surrounded me all this time and how much life I missed while feeling stressed about my corporate job.

After my staycation, I made a promise to myself: I would never limit the endless possibilities life has to offer and I would never forget to appreciate the moment I am in now. Ever since then, my abundance mindset has only brought in success for my accounting practice and independence I never thought possible.

It took a staycation for me to fully explore my surroundings and appreciate the beauty around me and within me. Ladies, don’t be afraid to explore your surroundings. Take a week off even if you don’t plan on going anywhere exotic – check out that museum down the street or visit the beach you’ve been procrastinating on visiting. You won’t regret it.

So what do you say? Where are you going to explore on your staycation?

To more money in our pockets (and a summer full of fun),

Chika
